The Vietnam War was a long, costly and divisive conflict that pitted the communist government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the United States.
The Vietnam War greatly changed America forever. It was the longest war fought in America’s history, lasting from 1955 to 1973. The Vietnam War tarnished America’s self image by becoming the first time in history the United States failed to accomplish its stated war aims, to preserve a separate, independent, noncommunist government.
The Vietnam War was a complete catastrophe and should hold been dealt with in a more positive manner. The sum of loss was non worth the addition, ( there truly wasn t much addition in the first topographic point ) and our state has suffered greatly because of those losingss.
The fear of communism eventually overtaking Australia was initially the main reason for Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. Sir Robert Menzies was elected Prime Minister of Australia in 1949 and maintained leadership for sixteen years. Menzies wanted to achieve a better lifestyle for all Australians and was bitterly opposed to communism.
The South Korean government pleaded for help and a UN force led mainly by the Americans went in to save South Korea. This is the same reason we went to Vietnam. Saigon begged for help an Johnson gave it. We would for the most part win that war.
The United States intervention in Vietnam is seen by the world as America’s greatest loss and longest war. Before the start of the war in Vietnam, the thought of the United States losing this war was unheard of because America was technologically superior, no country in south East Asia could contend with them.
There was no specific factor that led the united states into getting involved in the Vietnam war, but rather a gradual series of events and decisions which would lead them down such a path. The initial reasons for U.S. involvement in Vietnam seemed logical and compelling to American leaders.
